Traffic management is not all hard hats and traffic cones. Our dedicated customer support team work hard behind the scenes meticulously planning projects before a single road sign reaches site! Here’s how a typical day in the NTS office goes.
The morning starts with a good old fashioned brew.
Once business hours begin, the phone starts ringing. We receive all kinds of calls – from customers booking in works, checking the status of applications or new customer enquiries. Our Project Administrators are trained to guide customers through the traffic management process from the initial enquiry through to installation of traffic management systems on site. It’s fair to say we know our stuff!
As a temporary traffic management supplier, for all projects we complete Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS). RAMS are health and safety documents which we complete free of charge for all customers.
In addition to customer queries, we complete permit and licence applications approving works to take place. This could be a bus stop suspension to allow drainage works to be completed by a utility company, or a TTRO for a road closure to allow the removal of a tower crane.
Our M7 qualified operative will attend any site meetings which are booked in or complete Site Survey forms. We know that one size fits all which is why it’s important for us to get as much info as we can beforehand!
After a busy morning, it’s time for lunch. Someone will usually pop to the local sandwich shop or if there’s time for celebration it’s usually pizza!
Then, it’s back to work. Our Site Services Manager oversees the running of the Planning department and updates the diary with jobs or works booked in – this takes some juggling as there are several jobs taking place across the UK day and night. Job Packs containing RAMs and other important documents for jobs the following day are sent to operatives tablets using the paper-free system My Mobile Workers.
Requests for traffic management plans are managed by our CAD team. All plans are in line with Chapter 8 regulations – the traffic management bible! We produce plans just on their own or we supply the traffic management for them as well – we love how each customer is completely different.
It’s fair to say there is never a dull moment in our office!
